When you think back on your life there\u2019s a lot of pain. Right? You could tell me some stories. Life hurts.<\/p>\n

What do you do when life hurts?<\/p>\n

There are options.<\/p>\n

One option is to run from our problems. We take the pain and push it down, pretending it\u2019s not there.<\/p>\n

Running can take all kinds of forms.<\/p>\n

\u00b7      Some of us run away in our hearts. We just don\u2019t care anymore.<\/p>\n

\u00b7      Others run away more literally. Maybe you run from the first sign that a person might hurt you.<\/p>\n

\u00b7      Others run away to alcohol, or drugs, or porn, or fantasy books, or Netflix. Anything that will allow them to feel like they\u2019re escaping their reality for a little while.<\/p>\n

Running away from our problems doesn\u2019t help.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the better option I propose: Run with<\/em> your problems, to<\/em> Jesus. Pray. Talk to him about what happened and how you\u2019re feeling.<\/p>\n

There are all kinds of great promises from God in the Bible about what he<\/em> does when we<\/em> do this.<\/p>\n

o   Psalm 147:3, \u201cHe heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.\u201d<\/p>\n

o   Psalm 34:17:19, \u201cWhen his people pray for help, he listens and rescues them from their troubles. The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope. The Lord\u2019s people may suffer a lot, but he will always bring them safely through.\u201d<\/p>\n

He listens. He\u2019ll heal your brokenness. He rescues you. He gives you peace \u2013 in<\/em> your pain – that passes understanding. He provides hope.<\/p>\n

It seems perfect, but there\u2019s a problem. It\u2019s that when things happen, when we\u2019re in pain, we need to pray, but often the last thing we want to do is pray.<\/p>\n

Why is that?<\/p>\n

I think maybe it\u2019s because we see God \u2026 we see Jesus \u2026 as the one who is sending all this garbage in our lives. We feel like, \u201cWhy are you doing this to me? And I don\u2019t want to talk to you about it if you\u2019re the one who\u2019s doing this to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

My husband and I have a friend who\u2019s been through a lot lately, and he texted, \u201cMaybe God hates me.\u201d The problem is when we think God\u2019s the one doing these bad things to us.<\/p>\n

God is not<\/em> the one throwing all the garbage at you; he\u2019s the one who went through all the garbage for you<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s something we don\u2019t seem to realize. Jesus went through all the same painful things we do.<\/p>\n

1.    Growing up, did you ever feel like you didn\u2019t fit in? Maybe you were bullied? Well, Jesus was God coming to earth and could have chosen an easy, pain-free life of luxury. But Jesus was born to a couple of poor, unmarried teenagers. So, he grew up in poverty, but also, because he lived in a small religious town, he was known as that \u201cbastard boy\u201d because his parents weren\u2019t married.<\/p>\n

2.    Did you ever have someone you love die? Maybe die way too soon? We\u2019re basically sure Jesus\u2019 earthy father, Joseph, died when Jesus was still young. You can imagine the pain of it. Jesus, still a kid, having to become the man of the house.<\/p>\n

3.    Have you ever been betrayed? I have a couple times. I\u2019m not sure if anything hurts worse. Jesus knows that hurt. He was betrayed by Judas, one of his best friends. <\/p>\n

4.    Have you felt the pressure of being broke? Of not having enough money to take care of your basic needs? Jesus walked in some of that too. In Matthew 8:20 Jesus said that he had nowhere to sleep.<\/p>\n

Life is hard. It\u2019s painful. It\u2019s that way for everyone. God never<\/em> promised to protect anyone from pain. But he did<\/em> promise to be with you in it.<\/p>\n

Jesus is not something to avoid \u2013 he is an empathetic source of strength.  He\u2019s been there, He\u2019s done that (Hebrews 2:17-18). And so, we can approach him with confidence, because he understands. <\/strong>And he will give us mercy and grace in our time of need (Hebrews 4:15-16). So, run to him with your problems.
